Other Animals

We have taken care of other animals along the way. Here are their stories (click any picture to enlarge):

Pond Life
Andy has been interested in ponds since he helped his parents build one in their backyard. The first picture is of our "fish bowl" fish, Legolas and Gimli. They lived with us while we were in the apartment. They came from the Freed pond. Once we put in the pond in our yard, they moved out there and made a bunch of new friends. The second picture is of some of the pond inhabitants (I think that's Gimli in the middle). In the beginning all of the fish had names, but we've last track since the population changes a lot. The pond is also visited by a lot of frogs, as seen in the third picture.

Ford
Ford lived with us from June to October 2005. He was meant to be a permanent resident of the Freed household, but Scout enjoyed chasing him a little too much for us to feel safe for him. Ford was brought into my veterinary clinic with a nasty cut around his neck from a collar that was put on when he was a kitten and wasn't taken off as he grew. His name came from a character named Ford Prefect in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. His favorite pastimes were hitting Scout in the face with his (declawed) paws, sitting on furniture that he's not allowed on, eagerly anticipating meal time, and playing with his catnip toys. One of the adoption agencies helped us find him a new home, which we hope that he is very happy in.

Indy
This Beagle/Dachshund mix, originally named Jack, was brought to the clinic by our relief vet. She was going to keep him, but it didn't work out and he needed a new home. After he spent a few days there, I really liked him and started asking around Andy's family to see if anyone would be interested in taking him. He stayed at our house for a week for us to check out his personality. Since he turned out to be a really sweet dog, Andy's sister and her husband welcomed him into their home.

Clinic Cats - Boo Boo, Halley, and Oscar
Boo Boo, Halley, and Oscar live at the vet clinic. They have all lived there since they were kittens.
Boo Boo, a black tabby, was born without a tail (not even a stub), thus part of his spinal cord is missing and he doesn't know when he's going to the bathroom. A co-worker has styled pants for him to wear. He's a very sweet cat and my co-workers say that I am his favorite human. I carry him around a lot and he sits on my lap when I'm doing paperwork. He also enjoys lying on the dryer and strolling by dogs that want to chase him.
Halley, a tabby calico, was brought in for a kitten check-up and the original owner wanted to euthanize her upon hearing that she had a serious heart murmur. The clinic gladly took her in to save her. You can often find her sitting in a chair near the lobby or lying on paperwork.
Oscar, an orange tabby, was brought in to be Boo's buddy (before Halley arrived). He was found near the trash containers at a local mall, thus he's "Oscar the Grouch." He's our greeter - often sitting on the front counter. He also likes to sit on the computer monitor, but he blew out the old one, so he's only allowed to sit on it part-way (as seen in the picture).

Kittens
The clinic takes in kittens from Animal Control that are too young to go to a shelter. We take turns bringing them home to feed them.
