It still amazes me when I see people not wearing a helmet while they are riding a bike or skateboard, rollerblading, etc. There was a cornucopia of these subjects on the greenway today. There were kids on skateboards and several other children and adults on bikes - but no helmets! One kid did have a helmet actually, but it was hanging on his handlebars...

But one situation hit me profoundly - a mother riding her bike with her 2-3 year old daughter in the bike seat behind her. Neither wearing helmets! I almost stopped to discuss this with them... When I was three years old, my mom and I were in that same configuration when we slipped and hit the pavement. She was wearing a helmet, but mine was on order (and came in the next week). I was knocked unconscious. Thankfully I am here today to tell the tale with no long-term effects from the crash.

From that point on, there has always been a helmet on my head when it needed to be, and that has saved me several times.

"A dog judges others not by their color or creed or class but by who they are inside. A dog doesn’t care if you are rich or poor, educated or illiterate, clever or dull. Give him your heart and he will give you his. It was really quite simple, and yet we humans, so much wiser and more sophisticated, have always had trouble figuring out what really counts and what does not."
- from the book Marley & Me by John Grogan

Hank and I would like to congratulate Uno the Beagle. He's the winner of the 2008 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show!

The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is in town. I figured that out when I sat and waited THIRTY MINUTES for their train to pass through downtown.

In happier news, my new skates are on order. (I had to return the other pair.)

Yay for new rollerblades and warm weather! (Although I would like to see some snow accumulation by March...)

For all you non-meteo folk, that means that it is flurrying here. :)

Happy New Year!

We will miss you, Alvin.

Congratulations to Penn State Women's Volleyball - they are the 2007 NCAA National Champions!

I love Halo 3, but my bloodshot eyes don't.
